What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?
At Reset we work gently, with breathing exercises and meditations. At Deep Reset and Total Reset you go deeper, this is Conscious Connected Breathwork, an accompanied breath journey. Here's what it is and what it gives you.
Not a breathing technique. A journey.
Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB) is not 4-7-8 or box breathing. You breathe continuously and connectedly, no pause between the inhale and the exhale, a little deeper and more active than usual, carried by music. This way of breathing gently guides you into an altered, trance-like state: awake, but beyond constant thinking. A state in which what usually stays below the surface is allowed to show itself.
The journey in three phases
A session is deliberately structured, and always held in a safe space that works like a container:
The breath builds energy and opens the space.
The most intense moment. Here, what's present is allowed to move.
Arriving, sensing, letting what happened settle in calm.
Integration is especially important: it gives your nervous system time to make sense of the experience, instead of just "getting through" it.
Why it works
CCB is deliberately activating, not calming like box breathing. The faster, connected breathing slightly lowers CO₂ in the blood, and this very shift opens the door to the altered state, shown by researchers at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute in Frankfurt. The key: in a safe space, your system is first allowed to rev up ("gas"), so it can then let go all the more deeply ("brake"). This conscious activation followed by release is why a session feels completely different from any relaxation exercise.
„Breathwork can reliably evoke profound mental states without the use of drugs."
Breath: your bridge to the nervous system
Your nervous system has two sides: the sympathetic, your accelerator for performance, fight and flight, and the parasympathetic, your brake for calm, digestion and recovery. Under chronic stress, the accelerator stays pressed. Breath is the only one of these functions you can consciously steer, and therefore your direct bridge between the two. Through the breath you can regulate your nervous system: out of constant alarm and back into balance. A large systematic review shows that conscious breathing shifts exactly this balance via the vagus nerve, promoting calm, emotional control and well-being (Zaccaro et al., 2018). That is why CCB works not only in the moment, it trains your system’s ability to move between activation and calm. Especially when you are constantly under pressure, at work or in everyday life, that is the difference.
What it gives you
Connected breathing works not only during the session, it works afterwards. Participants report it, and research points the same way:
- Less stress and tension. Meta-analysis of 12 trials (Fincham et al., 2023)
- Noticeably less anxiety. Controlled CCB trial, large effect (2025)
- Better mood, more inner strength. Less irritability & low mood, higher self-esteem (Konstanz 2024, Frankfurt 2025)
- A quieter mind. Less rumination, visible in EEG (Konstanz 2024)
- Emotional release. The sense of letting something go (Sussex 2025)
- Deep calm and connection. States of spaciousness and peace
To be honest: these are research findings and experiences, not a promise of healing. CCB does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment.
„An effective, accessible, and scalable intervention for reducing anxiety symptoms."
The research behind it

Remarkably, in several of these studies the subjective experiences resembled mild-to-moderate psychedelic states, entirely without substances.
„Changes brain activity and mood, and induces mystical experiences."
Honestly framed: research on CCB is young and promising, but not yet definitive proof. That's exactly why I won't promise anything I can't keep, I invite you to experience it for yourself.
Powerful. And not for everyone
Because CCB is activating and intense, it isn’t suitable for everyone. Your safety always comes first, if in doubt we talk beforehand, and participation may only be possible after medical clearance.
Contraindications
CCB is not recommended in the following cases:
- Severe cardiovascular problems
- Severe illnesses, especially those affecting breathing
- Recent accident or surgery
- Organ failure or advanced, serious illness
- Vascular conditions (e.g. thrombosis, stroke)
- Psychosis
- Depression or significant psychological strain
- Epilepsy
- Severe trauma
- Pregnancy
Only after prior consultation, as they may be worsened:
- Asthma
- High blood pressure
- Acute symptoms of illness (e.g. fever)
- Eye conditions (e.g. glaucoma)
- Tinnitus
- Use of strong medication, especially psychiatric medication
